Our Favorite Things: Pick-Me-Up Podcasts

This week we are talking about podcasts that help us see perspective and get excited when facing difficult life choices. We’ve chosen 6 podcasts that have personally inspired us to grow, change, and move forward as creatives both in and out of the arts professions.

On Purpose with Jay Shetty (Listen here)

Former Vedic monk Jay Shetty covers the gamut of personal, emotional and spiritual growth in relation to everything from personal relationships to work and career. He can help you become more comfortable in your own skin, and offers insight to get through those difficult mental barriers you may be facing in your career change. I love how he asks such insightful questions.

The Institute of Black Imagination with Dario Calmese (Listen here)

This relatively new podcast hosted by artist and storyteller Dario Calmese delves into what it is to be a Black cultural thought leader, artist, and innovator. Dario and his guests discuss the braiding of culture, ideas and storytelling, and how to balance art with responsibility - both personal and social. It’s great for enterprising creatives who are looking to expand their worldview and thought processes, and grow their creative reach into the world.

The Rachel Hollis Podcast (Listen here)

Rachel will tell you that she’s created a multi-million dollar business off what she learned on Google. It always gives me hope that we can do anything we want to do with what we have at our fingertips.

I am not one to re-listen to podcasts but there are a few episodes I have listened to on repeat: Episode 155, Rob Lowe Stops By to Literally Talk About All The Things. Rob Lowe is hysterical, gives some great insight into his acting career, and talks about the need to pivot. Pivot, pivot, pivot and then pivot some more because work is all about being able to shift and continue to bring in money and life balance.

Episode 150, Embrace the Suck. If you didn’t know, Rachel Hollis is currently going through a divorce, and does a great job of talking about how things can suck and be great at the same time. It doesn’t mean that things don’t suck, but it does mean that you can still feel joy. Someday, that joy will be more consistent and apparent.

Out of the Arts Podcast (Listen here)

We started this podcast because we knew that there are more conversations to be had about people in the arts industry, and holding jobs outside the arts industry. So join us to have some conversations, know that you're not alone, and know that we've had a lot of the same questions and concerns.
